Hope you're hungry, because we've got no fewer than TEN news stories in this week's leftovers!

  1. Shameless plug alert! It's the last day to vote for your favorite Lower Haight businesses in SF Weekly's 2011 Best of San Francisco Poll. Feel free to vote for Haighteration in the "Best Blog" category -- it's the first one listed. Thanks!
  2. Did you know today is Arbor Day? The folks at Hayes Valley Farm sure do. They're having a fruit tree sale today from 12pm - 8pm, along with workshops, live music, and a potluck dinner.
  3. Also slightly outside the neighborhood, this week we learned what's becoming of the now-closed Bar on Church, at Church and 14th. The folks behind Bloodhound and Double Dutch are about 2 weeks away from opening a new bar called Churchill at the location. The bar will have ten mostly-local beers on tap, cocktails, a jukebox, a pool table, and an "early World War II" interior vibe. More details at Eater.
  4. Reader Ben H. asks for your help in recovering his bike, which was stolen from his garage at Fillmore and Page Tuesday morning. "It's a pretty rare bike, a 2006 GT Power Series BMX Racer and I've never see another in SF," Ben says. It looks thusly: Got any info on it? Let us know and we'll put you in touch with Ben.
  5. There are plans underway for a new playground at Duboce Park, to serve "children who have outgrown the existing children’s playground, but who are not yet old enough for unsupervised play." To cover the estimated $100,000 cost, the project's organizers need to raise $25,000 from the community (the rest is being covered with grants). Tomorrow (Saturday) from 11am to 3pm, swing by Duboce Park for the fundraising kickoff event, where you can meet the organizers and learn about plans for the playground. There'll be live music, popcorn, and pop-up cafés. Click here for more information.
  6. The Chronicle has a story this week about "Survival House 1977," a new book about the house at 758 Haight Street. In the late 1970s, the address was the site of "Golden Gate Gay Liberation House and Survival Project," a halfway house of sorts for homeless folks of various backgrounds. An interesting glimpse into neighborhood history!
  7. Several readers tipped us to a story on CNN.com this week by a local writer who lists the Lower Haight as his "favorite place to spend a night out on the town," including several Lower Haight bars and restaurants amongst his recommendations. We're famous!
  8. In a story that's pretty slim on details, The Examiner has a report about an unnamed employee at an unnamed business on the 500 block of Waller who was threatened by an unnamed man sleeping on the businesses's doorstep on Wednesday morning. The man was arrested for making unspecified "felony threats" against the employee. That's all we know.
  9. This week, SF Weekly posts a very positive review of Vinyl Wine Bar as well as an interview with co-owner Kris Esqueda.
  10. And finally, reader Susan M. sends in one more photo of a strange, tiny car from the Big Sur movie shoot last week. Anybody know what kind of car this is?
That's our round-up for the week! Anything we missed? Let us know. tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
