Looking for a fun, free, family-friendly alternative to Bay to Breakers this weekend? Look no further than Golden Gate Park's spectacular California Academy of Sciences, which is offering free admission to Lower Haight residents today through Sunday.

The museum's 2011 Neighborhood Free Days promotion kicks off today, promising free entry to residents of specific zip codes on pre-determined weekends in the spring and fall. And with adult tickets usually costing $29.95, this deal is none too shabby! This weekend, residents of 94117, 94127, 94131, and 94132 get the VIP treatment. That's the Upper and Lower Haights, Cole Valley, Glen Park, St. Francis Wood, and Lake Merced. To take advantage of the deal, you just have to show a valid photo ID with proof of your residency. That could include:
  • A driver’s license or state ID card
  • Photo ID plus postmarked envelope, postcard, or magazine label with name and date
  • Photo ID plus utility bill (gas/electric/cable), bank statement, or letter from a government agency with name and home address (not a P.O. Box).
If you can't make it this weekend, don't fret--- we'll be eligible again for free entry to the Academy September 23-25.
