Yes, it's that time of year again. Bay to Breakers rolls through the city tomorrow morning, and this year -- the 100th running/rolling/stumbling -- promises to be an interesting one.
With alcohol, floats, pets, strollers, bicycles, grocery carts, kegs, bottles, and public drunkenness officially banned this year, organizers are hoping for a cleaner, safer, soberer race than ever.
Right.
Whether that comes to pass or not, here are some key factoids you need to know about how the race will affect the Lower Haight.
- Street closures tomorrow will include: Divisadero from Grove to Oak, 5am to 11:30am Steiner from Grove to Hayes, 5am to 11:30am Baker from Oak to Fell, 5am to 11:30am Hayes from Market to Divisadero, 6am to 11am Fell from Divisadero to Stanyan, 6am to 11:30am
- Trumer Pils will be sponsoring five "pit stops" around the neighborhood: at Cafe International, Mad Dog in the Fog, Nickies, Underground SF, and Noc Noc. If you run the race, look for Trumer's street team to get a wristband that'll entitle you to $1 off Trumers at any of the pit stops. The bars will also have Trumer-branded swag including key chains, frisbees, and more.
- In an effort to cut down on public intoxication, liquor stores in the neighborhood are being instructed not to sell alcohol before noon tomorrow.
- If you see someone who looks like they're... um... not in great shape, you can direct them to a first aid station at Hayes and Scott. If they're in really bad shape, and they're within a block of the race route, there's a dedicated Medical Incident Command line you can call - 415-264-3636. If they're outside of that one-block radius, just call 911.
- Finally, the neighborhood's soon-to-be-newest eatery, Wing Wings, will be having a special mini-preview tomorrow during the race. Stop by 422 Haight starting at 10am for "brown sugar/cracked black pepper biscuits with homemade jam and iced tea." YES.
