It's Friday the 13th -- are you ready to get straight-up creepy? Because we've got some standup comedy, a defaced ATM, a slew of events and much more, all in today's leftovers.
Just a reminder that tonight, we've got two white-hot events in the neighborhood -- American Tripps ping-pong at D-Structure (520 Haight), and the opening of Twixt sc. 83 at Fifty24SF (218 Fillmore).
Also tonight, Mad Dog in the Fog (530 Haight) hosts a Funk, Soul, Rare Groove, and Disco night. The bar promises "top choice tunes for your listening pleasure" from 10pm to 2am.
On Saturday night, Underground SF will be the site of "POP BROWNIE: The Y2K Edition, featuring jams from the turn of the millennium. Cover is $5, but it's free before 10:30pm.
Need some stuff that used to be belong to other people? On Sunday, there's a giant sidewalk sale from 9am to 4pm at 244 Scott Street. Simultaneously (from 11am to 3pm), there's an estate sidewalk sale on the 700 block of Haight Street. The two are not related, to our knowledge.
A reader tipped us to this video featuring the stand-up comedy stylings of Bean There barista Anna Seregina! Watch Anna tell tales of some of the more unusual characters she has encountered at the Lower Haight cafe. Funny stuff.
We all know Divisadero is the new hotness, but is it too hot to handle? That's what the Wall Street Journal claimed this week, noting that the street's resurgence is leading to higher rents and pushing out the older, working-class black population. True?
Haighteration reader Josh K. informs us that George Peacock, founder of Peacock Music in Duboce Triangle, passed away just before New Years. Opened in 1971, Peacock Music was San Francisco's oldest instrument shop, according to the Chronicle. R.I.P. George.
Finally, Twitter tipster MikeG2011 points us to a clever defacing of a Bank of America ATM on Fell. Covering the usual transaction selections, like deposit and withdrawal, someone has pasted options like "Invest in Coal-fired Power Plants" and "Foreclose on America's Homes".
