Artist Interview: Little Boots
To get you in the Hardly Strictly spirit (we're feeling like a very musical weekend), we thought we'd give you an interview with Victoria Hesketh, AKA Little Boots, who was in town last week for a great show at the Independent.

Little Boots will not be at Hardly Strictly, but we took a rare opportunity to speak with her on your behalf, dear readers. When Victoria Hesketh, more commonly known as Little Boots, finished her performance at the Independent last week and walked offstage to the cheers of the crowd we expected her to come back for an encore. What we didn’t expect was for her to do that encore in a white dress with LED lights that lit up in sync with the music. Though unexpected the dress was, like the rest of the show, amazing. We'd never seen Little Boots live before so we weren’t sure what to expect but by the end of the show we were mesmerized. Throughout the performance she seamlessly blended electro-pop beats with raw, powerful vocals. This created something with a good beat and easy to dance to, which was given even more depth by a powerful voice that you don’t often find in electronic music. She sounds like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vSOHu-sZucg We had a chance to ask Hesketh some questions about her work: Q: Your bio says you play an instrument called the Tenori-on. Can you describe what that is? A: A Japanese designed step sequencer programmed by a matrix of LED buttons made by Yamaha. Q: Who has been your favorite musician to work with? A: Andy Butler from Hercules & Love Affair was pretty fun. Q: Which musicians have had the biggest influence on your work? A: Kate Bush, The Beach Boys, Abba, David Bowie, Donna Summer, Blondie ... Q:What do you like most about being on tour? What do you like least? A: I love meeting fans and finding people who know the words to my songs all over the world. I hate air conditioning. Q: What has been your favorite album this year so far? A: Maya Jane Cole, Comfort One of the best things about live music is going to see a band you’ve heard of and then getting blown away by their opener. This is exactly what happened with MNDR, the artist who opened for Little Boots. While MNDR is made up of two members, Amanda Warner and Peter Wade, only Amanda performs live. She was a good match to tour with Hesketh with her electronic beats and powerful vocals. While Warner was not able to upstage the main artist of the night we still doubt there was anyone in the crowd who left unimpressed by her performance.
