We've been chatting with Alexis Smith about the Haight Ashbury Public Realm Plan, and we thought you might be interested in the state of things.
The Planning Department is currently in their research phase, so they've been collecting opinions from neighbors about what they love about the nabe, and what they think could be improved. They were at Cole Valley Street Fair a few weeks back, and we asked Alexis how things went down.

I really enjoyed the informal setting – we spoke with a lot of families and other folks who might not necessarily have been able to attend a public meeting. Some people stopped by quickly just to see what the project was about, and others stayed for much longer to have an in-depth discussion – there was a great variety. And of course, we began to get a feel for some specific things that people would like to see happen. Input ranged from small (but important) improvements like crosswalks, to some really big, creative ideas. If you want to give your feedback about the project to Alexis, there are two ways to do it. You can click this link and take the survey online. Alternately, Alexis and Co. will be at the Farmer's Market tonight from 3-7pm. They will have surveys ready for you to fill out and hand in. If you can't make it tonight, they're planning to do some pop-ups around the hood, possibly at HSM, although the details aren't nailed down yet. We'll let you know when those will happen. And what will they do with all this feedback?
We’ll take the information from the maps and from the surveys, and use that to inform a few alternative designs for improvements to Haight Street and a few other key streets and/or intersections that people have expressed interest in. So their input at these events really is important, and is being used. We’ll present the design alternatives at a public meeting in early 2014.If you want to see what some people have said so far, you can check out this PDF of a map with proposed improvements. So, citizens, fill out your survey, and let us know what you said in the comments.
