Considering all the crazy things happening lately, we'd thought we'd throw together a PSA for emergency situations.
Last night, one of our readers was taking his dog for an evening walk. He saw a girl vomiting in the middle of the road on Ashbury street. She had a guy with her, trying to get her off the ground. The Good Samaritan was able to help out and get the girl on her feet and back to her place, so he got lucky. In case things don't go quite so well, here's a list of handy numbers and services in the Haight. Obviously, for emergencies - medical and other - call 911. But there are lots of other ways to take care of things that come up. Here are some magic numbers:

In case things don't go quite so well, here's a list of handy numbers and services in the Haight. Obviously, for emergencies - medical and other - call 911. But there are lots of other ways to take care of things that come up. Here are some magic numbers:
- 415-740-4853: need a beat cop on Haight Street? This is a line that merchants use to get a beat cop on the scene ASAP. Specific to Haight Street.
- 415-731-2865: This is the Park Station tip line. See something suspicious? This is who to call.
- 415-558-3300: This number is the Bureau of Fire Prevention. If you see a fire hazard, and think it needs to be addressed, this is who to call.
- 415-554-3030: Think your dog at a poison meatball? This is the emergency line for the ASPCA. Call between 8 and 4, let them know your emergency, and then take your pet to 201 Alabama Street. Other emergency pet lines for outside those hours: 415-401-9200 (VCA San Francisco Veterinary Specialists), 415-566-0540 (Animal Internal Medicine & Specialty Services), or 415-563-6700 (Pets Unlimited).
- 311: This is the most magic of the magic numbers. Call 311 for almost any non-emergency: on garbage day, your can got flipped and the sidewalk is covered in garbage? 311. Unsightly graffiti? 311. Streetlight out? 311. Water smells funny? 311. Park issues, like illegal encampments, locked restrooms, or even lost and found? 311. And if there's ever a city-wide emergency (like an earthquake), 311 serves as a backup for 911 if you can't get through to 911. Even if it's something that 311 doesn't handle directly, 9/10 times they'll be able to point you in the right direction.
