The annual Battle of the Bands starts this week, with a slot at the Haight Ashbury Street Fair at stake.
At 9pm this Thursday, Milk Bar will kick off the battle for coveted stage time at the Haight Ashbury Street Fair, which falls this year on Sunday, June 8th. There will be another battle every other Thursday through May 15th, so get ready for even more rock coming your way throughout the spring.
Here's the lineup for this week:
Them Creatures
From their facebook page: Started in Late 2011 from the ashes of a few notorious Bay Area Punk and Post punk bands,Them Creatures steadily have begun to carve a niche in the ebb and flow Sf music scene.
High and Tight
From their reverbnation page: High and Tight is an American rock band formed and residing in NorCal's Bay Area. Influences are drawn from their collective musical backgrounds including; garage punk, california skate rock, street punk, 60s texas garage, surf, Boston Rock, 70s/80s metal, and Little Richard (of course). Since its inception in 2009, High and Tight has played over 100 shows up and down the west coast and been an integrel part of the San Francisco/Oakland music scene.
Battery Powered Grandpa
From their facebook page: SF style rock under a blanket of open minded musical experiences. We are friends that enjoy playing music that pushes our ears to develop. We are always searching for the unknown style. We feel like we bring our selves to the edge of what is known. To be the frontiersman of the universal language of music is all we could ever want and to give what we find, to those who come to listen...
Kingsborough
From their reverbnation page: Determined to help revive authentic, soulful rock music, KINGSBOROUGH has become one of the North Bay’s most entertaining and fastest rising acts. The band’s influences range from The Allman Brothers and Bill Withers to Rage Against the Machine and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, resulting in a beautiful hurricane of widely diverse original material. Armed with heart pounding rhythms, dazzling guitar solos and powerful vocal harmonies, this powerhouse 5 piece is living proof that rock n’ roll is still alive and well.
The shows are 21+, and there's a $7-10 cover (it's a sliding scale).
The winner is determined by the loudest crowd response, so get over there on Thursday and make your vote count!
