Tikka Masala Has Closed, AgainPhoto: Amy Stephenson/Hoodline
Tikka Masala, the ill-fated Indian restaurant at 1668 Haight, is closed. Again.

Long after its year-plus closure following a fire three years ago, the restaurant is closed for a renovation, according to a sign on the door.

There are no current construction permits for the address on file with the city planner, and the phone is disconnected. According to Yelp, the restaurant never even stopped taking online orders last week, even though it had stopped service by then. (Also according to Yelp, the business may have been suffering from a bad reputation.)

It seems possible that we might be looking at another All You Knead-esque renovation closure that lasts indefinitely.

This also comes after last year's news that the business was up for sale, with no subsequent clear transfer of ownership or re-launch. And it comes almost a year after the installation of Great Indian Food at 1793 Haight, which was when Tikka Masala went on the market initially.

Restaurant staff was unavailable for comment at the time of this posting.
