Lower Haight restaurant Greenburger's closes its doors
for good at 10pm tonight, but 518 Haight Street won't be staying dormant for long.
We've learned that a "new American comfort food" restaurant called Cool Beans will be using the space to test out its menu over the month of June, before the permanent new tenant moves in.
Cool Beans is the brainchild of chef Tim West and his business partner Derek Proudian. Their goal with Cool Beans "is to create a menu that is delicious, affordable and fast as well as good for the planet," West tells us.
West has a background in the slow food movement, having worked on projects involving sustainable food systems and permaculture. He has held previous stints cooking at New York's St. Regis Hotel and at Facebook headquarters.
The first day of business for Cool Beans will be next Saturday, June 7th, during the Lower Haight Art Walk, when the pop-up will be open for lunch and dinner, or until it runs out of food. Thereafter, it'll be open six days a week (closed Mondays) throughout June.
And then, once June comes to an end, the keys to the joint get turned over to new owner Sun Hee Lee, owner of Polk Street restaurant Nara Sushi
. We're still awaiting word on exactly what Lee is planning for the new restaurant, but we're told it likely won't
