Amoeba Teams Up With SF-Marin Food Bank For Food DrivePhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline
If you're doing any holiday shopping at Amoeba this season, you might want to raid your pantry first.
Now through December 23rd, Amoeba at Haight & Stanyan is joining forces with the SF-Marin Food Bank to collect canned foods and non-perishables for families in need this winter. Specifically, the initiative calls for soup, chili, beans, cereal, peanut butter, granola bars, and canned veggies, meat and tuna. The only caveat: no glass containers.

Aside from the satisfaction of doing good for others, there's another, slightly less altruistic reason to contribute some food: if you donate, you'll get a coupon for $5 off your purchase of $25 or more in-store, or 10 percent off your purchase at Amoeba.com. (Also of note: Amoeba has a 20 percent Cyber Monday deal going on today.)

You can also head over with your donation this Saturday at 1pm to watch  "rootsy, Americana, string-based" ensemble Leftover Salmon perform live before their show at the Fillmore that night.

Potential food donors and shoppers, take note: Amoeba will have slightly extended hours the week before Christmas. Instead of its normal 11am-8pm, it'll open at 10:30am starting on the 20th of December. It will close at 7pm on Christmas Eve, and be closed on Christmas Day.

If you're not into bringing physical canned foods, you can always donate your dollars at this link. Last month, some generous Hoodline readers raised $500 for the Haight Ashbury Food Bank, so let's see what magic we can work this time.
