A fast-moving vegetation blaze dubbed the Dutch Flat fire sent parts of American Canyon scrambling yesterday, as flames tore through marshy wetlands near the Napa–Solano county line and pushed smoke into nearby neighborhoods. Residents on several streets were ordered to leave or be ready to go while firefighters lined roads and, where possible, hit the fire from the air to shield nearby homes and position resources.
Fire Reported Midday, Evacuation Orders Follow
The fire was first reported shortly after noon and initially estimated at about 5 acres, according to The Press Democrat. American Canyon police issued evacuation orders for portions of the Knightsbridge and Kensington neighborhoods, including Knightsbridge Way up to Chaucer Lane and Kensington Way from Northrup Lane to Chaucer Lane. Fire crews also requested a helicopter to get at the flames in the marshland. As of Saturday afternoon, firefighters were still on scene and officials had not yet reported any containment.

Fire officials said the location in tidal marsh and dense grasses made it tough for ground crews to reach the heart of the blaze, which increased the need for aircraft and mutual aid partners to keep flames from pushing into housing. With the incident straddling the county line, several agencies coordinated staging areas and equipment while working to protect key roads and other infrastructure.
