Nickies Debuts New Cocktail Menu, Food Updates On The WayAndrew Dudley / Hoodline

Imbibers of the Lower Haight might be interested to know that Nickies Bar (466 Haight) has a newly updated cocktail menu. (According to the bar's website, past cocktail selections have tended towards Cosmos, Lemon Drops, Appletinis and the like.)

“These are cocktails that we like to drink ourselves, and now we get to share them with the neighborhood and our fantastic customers,” Nickie's manager Sean O’Donovan told Hoodline via email. (Full disclosure: Nickies is a Hoodline advertiser.)

The menu’s design was a collaborative effort between O’Donovan, fellow manager Shannon Dolan and the bar’s staff, and comes just before St. Patrick's Day hits the neighborhood. Here’s a look:

“The theme running through the drink names is 'different versions of a good story' (the Reason, the Lie, the Excuse ... etc),” O’Donovan says. “The criteria for the drinks themselves was simply, "Make them strong, make them delicious.'"

“The Reason,” for instance, is essentially a hot toddy but with Irish whiskey instead of bourbon, plus ginger beer and a cinnamon rim. “The Truth” is a top-shelf margarita, but you can add chambord to make it “the Absolute Truth.”There are also gin, vodka and rum concoctions, as well as the bar's full selection of liquor and beer.

The cocktail menu isn't the only change afoot at Nickies, as O’Donovan says he and his staff are currently in the process of updating the bar's lunch, dinner and brunch menus, and expects to roll those out in the next couple of weeks.

If you’re sold and ready to tipple, Nickies also has a new happy hour from 4pm-7pm Monday to Friday, when you’ll get discounts on both hooch and food.

Nickies Bar is open from noon to 2am Monday through Friday, and 10am to 2am on Saturdays and Sundays.
