With a weekend of projected sunny skies ahead, we've got a few events in and around the Castro to check out if you're in the city this weekend.
Friday, June 12th
Double Feature: 'Midnites For Maniacs' hosted by Jesse Hawthorne Ficks is back at the Castro Theatre with another double feature. This month, in honor of John Cusack's 49th birthday, look for a screening of Cusack's most popular films. First will be Cameron Crowe's Say Anything (7:20pm), followed by John Cusack as LP obsessed Rob in High Fidelity (9:30pm). Make sure you get there early for the giveaways and hilarious trailers. ($12)
Saturday, June 13th
Morning Stroll: Join Thinkwalks on Saturday morning for Wiggle Walk, a stroll through a neighborhood many of us zip through on our bikes. Learn about the neighborhood's role in the 1960 Freeway Revolts, its connection to Martin Luther King Jr., the natural spring that once went through the neighborhood and the native people who resided here. The walk meets at the least windy corner of Church & Hermann at 11:30am. (RSVP Required, $25)
Brunch: Soul Delicious, a new weekly pop-up from Wes Rowe (Wes Burger) and Dominique Garcia (Mama Knows) in partnership with Motown on Monday, launches this Saturday at Lookout. Enjoy Southern-style food with items including fried chicken, savory waffles and breakfast tacos accompanied by your favorite soul jams (dancing optional). Soul Delicious will be a Lookout every Saturday from 11am-4pm with a rotating brunch menu.
Sundance Saloon: The LGBT country-western dance club event returns to Jane Warner Plaza at 1pm on Saturday. Expect line dancing with blues, bluegrass and classic rock accompaniment from Dirty Cello.
Beer Bust: City Hall Fellows, a national non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to developing the next generation of civic leaders, hosts 'Pride In Service: A Fundraiser For City Hall Fellows' Saturday afternoon at Beaux. The event goes from 4pm-7pm and they'll have a $10 beer bust, raffle prize and special guest SF Treasurer José Cisneros.
Sunday, June 14th
Flagging: Venture outside the Castro on what should be a gorgeous Sunday in Golden Gate Park for 'Flagging In The Park- Russ Rich.' This event benefits Maitri Compassionate Care with music by DJ Russ Rich. Flags will be available for use or you can just relax and take in the fun dance music and colorful visuals. This free event goes from 1pm-4pm at the National AIDS Memorial Grove.
Hoops: After splitting the series in Cleveland against the Cavs by taking Game 4, the Warriors are back in the Bay and looking to take a 3-2 series lead. Let's see if the Warriors can keep 'The King' in check as they pursue their first NBA title in 40 years. To watch, head over to any bar in the Castro with a TV. Hi Tops is the Castro's headquarters for the NBA Finals, but you'll have to get there early if you're planning on getting a good seat. Tip-off is at 5pm.
