At about 10:32pm Tuesday, June 2, a pedestrian crossing the street at 8th and Mission Streets was struck by a suspected robbery vehicle being pursued by a police car.
SFPD states that officers in a marked police vehicle spotted a vehicle driven by a robbery suspect. When they pulled behind it, the suspect vehicle immediately fled and hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital. The officers followed the suspect vehicle — a blue four-door BMW — onto the Bay Bridge but lost it near the I-580 split.
The identities of the suspect and victim have not been released, but a friend of the victim told ABC News last night that he and his friend tried to get out of the way, but his friend was struck by the car police were chasing and "went flying".
This collision comes just one day after a stolen BMW led police on a pursuit through the central city that ended in one arrest and no major injuries.
