Good news for anyone trying to purge their extra stuff: the 18th annual edition of the Duboce Park Tag Sale is happening this Saturday.

Beginning tonight at 5:30pm, you can drop off any unwanted clothing, household goods, books and the like at a big yellow truck parked beside the Noe/Duboce Muni stop. On Saturday, all the donated items will be divided into their respective categories and put up for sale in Duboce Park.

The event is put on every year by Friends of Duboce Park, the group behind the Duboce Park playground, the Scott Street Labyrinth and the Duboce Park Movie Night. This year's proceeds will benefit the Steiner Duboce Improvement Project, which is currently stalled due to lack of funding.

According to event organizer Mark Scheuer, the sale has drawn an increasing number of people with each passing year, so expect a crowd. Most of the wares are thrift-store appropriate (somewhere between Goodwill and brand-new), and children's clothes and toys are always the most common items.

With that said, discovering valuable or rare items at the sale is not unheard of. "People don't always know what they're giving up," said Scheuer. "We have some serious shoppers who know the Tag Sale is every September, and plan accordingly."

Even if you strike out in the bargain hunt, you can still dine affordably: the Tag Sale is likely the only place in the Lower Haight that offers a full lunch (burger, chips and a drink) for $5.

"It's really just a community get-together," said Scheuer. "A place for people to find things they want, eat hamburgers and have a good time."

The Duboce Park Tag Sale will be held this Saturday, September 12th, from 9am-2pm. Donations will be accepted at the truck Tuesday-Friday from 5:30-7pm, and Saturday morning before 9am.
