The word in the neighborhood this week is that San Francisco Rec and Park might decide to add second weekly appearance of the Off The Grid mobile food truck court at the Waller St. skate park.

Ben Himlan Murrin, Off The Grid's director of business development, said in an email earlier this week that any information about the possibility lay with Rec & Park, and declined to comment on whether a second Upper Haight day was something Off The Grid would actively pursue, if the possibility became available.

At the moment, according to Rec & Park spokesperson Connie Chan, "We are just at the preliminary stage of exploring our options to keep the area activated by getting community feedback on the proposal."

As part of that, inquiries from Rec & Park have been going out to neighborhood merchants this week, in an attempt to gauge neighborhood interest or possible support of the second food truck day.

The addition to the Waller St. lot was a result, Chan said, of the recent cancellation of the weekly farmers market, which had to close last month due to a lack of traffic.

"As you know," she said, "the Farmers’ Market has decided to discontinue their operations at the Alvord Lake Area so our property management team is exploring the option to having Off The Grid... keep the park activated with healthy recreation and fun activities which the Department and the surrounding community and merchants desire."

Kent Uyehara, owner of FTC Skate Shop and one of the proponents of an improved skate park at the Waller St. lot, said in an email that he hadn't been contacted yet about the possibility of a new Off The Grid day on Waller, but that "We also hope our Phase 2 Waller skate area grant proposal is approved soon, which would significantly improve the current skateboarding structures."

We will, of course, keep you posted as updates surface.
