Beginning at 12:01am this Friday, Nov. 13th and lasting for three days, Van Ness Avenue between Post and Geary will be closed to private vehicle traffic. The closure will allow general contractor HerreroBOLDT to complete construction on the pedestrian tunnel that will connect Sutter Health’s future CPMC Van Ness and Geary Campus with the medical building also under construction  across the street.

The detours illustrated below—with Van Ness between Geary and Post completely closed to all traffic except public transit and emergency vehicles—will be in affect until 11:59pm Sunday, Nov. 15th. There will also be parking restrictions on Franklin and Gough streets during the closure.

One side of Van Ness will remain open to public transportation, emergency vehicles and pedestrians throughout the construction period. Local drivers will also have access to the detour zone between Pine and Ellis.

Anyone curious to know how exactly the pedestrian tunnel is being constructed should check out the video below, detailing every step of the process since the project began in April.

Construction junkies may also enjoy the San Francisco Business Times' slideshow of photos taken just last Friday of the rising hospital and hole in the ground that will soon become the medical office building.

As for this weekend's closure and detours, more information can be found on the CPMC website.
