A couple of months ago, we reported that Sockshop was planning to expand into shoes, opening a pop-up store in the adjacent storefront at 1740 Haight St. that was vacated by Buyer's Best Friend back in April. The new store, which opened on Wednesday, is appropriately named Shoe Shop.
As with the Santa Cruz-based brand's flagship store, Sockshop and Shoe Shop work in tandem to offer complementary gear. (The third Sockshop location, in Berkeley, doesn't stock shoes.) Shoe Shop is currently stocked with an array of boots, shoes, bags and scarves.
"So far, we've been really well received by the neighborhood," said Felicia, a Shoe Shop employee who was working at the store this weekend. For the moment, Shoe Shop currently carries only women's shoes, "but you never know, we might end up with men's shoes too."
UPDATE, 11/17: While we previously reported that Shoe Shop will open under a year-long lease as a trial run, store managers confirmed that Shoe Shop's updated lease will secure them the space for five years.
