Haight Street is experiencing another traffic interruption this week, in the latest installment of what's been a long, steadily accumulation of gas leaks, sinkholes, sewer repairs, and yes, more sinkholes.
According to signs staked out on Haight between Clayton and Belvedere this morning, the 1600 block will be off-limits to street parking between 6am and 3:30pm through the end of the week.
The cause of the parking ban isn't repair work on the sinkhole that appeared early this week in front of Zam Zam, or work on the still-delayed infrastructure improvement project or even the lateral sewer replacement project embarked upon a scant two weeks ago: according to signage around the work site, it's a "sewer condition assessment in support of the Geary BRT project."
As for that sinkhole, there's still no word as to what's being done to address it. The work crews doing today's inspection were even using the manhole surrounded by the sinkhole.
As of 1pm today, work crews were packing up and parking was restored for the day. Saturday should see a return to regular traffic on the street.
