Organizers of Saturday's outdoor activities are probably hoping for a break in the barrage of storms headed to the area this weekend. If you're looking to dodge a drenching, it may be a good time to take shelter in a neighborhood museum.

To that end, the California Academy of Sciences hosts its first-ever coffee-themed Nightlife on Thursday. Local roasters, including Outer Sunset favorite Andytown, will be teaching, demoing, and serving samples of their special brews. And because it's Nightlife, the "swamp bar" will serve up cocktails and a coffee-brewed stout.

You may remember our coverage of the Shared Schoolyards ribbon-cutting celebration at Cole Valley's Grattan Elementary back in November. The celebration train continues, stopping at Independence High School (1350 7th Ave.) this Saturday. The project opens schoolyards to families and children on weekends between 9am and 4pm. Currently, Independence High is the neighborhood's only open schoolyard, though the program is slated to expand to three more Inner Sunset schools. Saturday's event will feature free lunch, activities, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and an appearance by Supervisor Mark Farrell, who spearheaded the project. You can RSVP here.

In case of heavy rain, and/or if you've been meaning to check out Robert Motherwell's abstract expressionist artwork at the de Young, you've got until Sunday, when the exhibit closes. Fashionistas, mark your calendars for next Saturday, March 12th, when the highly anticipated Oscar de la Renta exhibit opens.

And now, more on these and lots more weekend events ahead:
