The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing, or “COPS Office," is continuing its series of listening sessions with a community meeting tonight at Gateway High School (1430 Scott St.) from 6-8pm.
A voluntary review of the San Francisco Police Department by the Justice Department was requested by Mayor Ed Lee following the fatal Dec. 2nd, 2015 shooting of Mario Woods by five SFPD officers in the Bayview.
Tonight's open forum follows a listening session in Bayview last month, in which speakers shared stories of police bias and violence. "Perspectives, concerns and suggestions regarding the San Francisco Police Department and the department's interaction with the San Francisco community are welcome" at tonight's forum, according to the town hall announcement, so prepare to share your thoughts and concerns.
