With rainy weather on the horizon for this weekend, you're still in luck. Three of SoMa's biggest events this weekend will keep you warm and dry without sacrificing a bit of the experience.

The Search For Mr. San Francisco Leather

Award season is in full swing, and for SoMa, that means it's time for another edition of the Mr. San Francisco Leather Contest. This Saturday evening marks the San Francisco Bay Area Leather Alliance's 25th search for the ultimate representative to send to the national competition in Chicago this fall May. With 10 contenders on tap, this will be the organization's largest competition yet, says event producer Nile Eckhoff.

But you don't have to be a member of the tight-knit leather and kink community to attend. Eckhoff encourages anyone who's been interested in getting involved in the community to join the event, which resembles an annual gala for the volunteer-based nonprofit organization.

His advice for newbies: Dress the part, and be prepared for nudity. This is an LGBTQ event, after all, and the winner must be comfortable in his own skin and with socializing with all walks of life, locally and nationally, he said.

The competition is just icing on the cake of a long leather- and kink-filled weekend; the Alliance's full lineup of weekend events can be found here.

Starting this Saturday night, Oasis is launching a new showcase of up-and-coming drag talent, Daughter. It will run before and after the legendary drag show Mother on the first Saturday of every month—at no extra cost.

This week's theme is "Freak Show," and you can meet the fresh blood set to take the stage on Daughter's Facebook page.

The Old Mint Reopens With Free San Francisco History Fair

Inside "The Granite Lady" back in 2012.

With fresh landscaping and a debris-free stoop, the Old Mint is starting to look like its old self again—on the outside, at least, thanks to the city's latest efforts to bring the historic building back to life as plans for a major restoration project are developed.

Come this weekend, all will have the chance to peek inside the building when the Mayor's Office hosts a free San Francisco history fair. From 9am-4pm Saturday and Sunday, more than 75 exhibitors, including archivists, archaeologists and reenactors, will share snippets of the city's history.

Before we jump into even more top to-do's for the week to come, mark your calendars: the annual How Weird Street Faire has been scheduled for May 1st. They're selling "Magic Stickers" that offer expedited gate entry and $2 off each alcoholic beverage for just $11.11, but you'll have to hurry—the sale ends Friday, March 4th.
