Rose Pak, a longtime leader in the Chinatown community, died this morning at the age of 68, the Examiner has confirmed

After moving to San Francisco in 1967 and covering Chinatown for the San Francisco Chronicle, Pak spent decades advocating for the community. As the Chronicle notes, she never held a political office herself but was a powerful force behind the scenes at City Hall.

Further details on her death have not been released, but it is widely-known that Pak returned to San Francisco last year after a long stay in China due kidney failure.
