16 Injured In Pepper Spray Incident At Stonestown GalleriaPhoto: David B./Yelp

16 people were injured last night at the Stonestown Galleria after pepper spray (or a similar chemical) was released inside the building.

According to the Associated Press, the incident occurred at 8:06pm, when a female between the ages of 15 and 17 took out a spray can and allegedly released a reddish chemical into the air inside a clothing store. (A Twitter witness said that the store was Forever 21.)

13 people who complained of pain were treated with eye wash at the scene and released, while three more people were admitted to the hospital for evaluation, and are in stable condition.

Police say that the female suspect ran out of the store with a group of other juveniles, and has not been apprehended. Several stores shut down in response to the incident, but the mall itself was not evacuated.
