It's been a busy month at 525 Valencia St., which has welcomed Brown Sugar Factory, an American breakfast joint, and Blue Pea, an Asian fusion restaurant—which are both housed in the same building.

They've taken over the former digs of Valencia & Kebab, a Mediterranean restaurant that closed in September after just 10 months.

While the restaurants have separate Yelp pages, they're not actually separate entities—they have the same owners, but the night shift is led by a separate team of chefs. According to the manager, the distinction was made due to feedback from friends, who told him that patrons won't believe a breakfast joint can also "do Asian foods."

So by day, Brown Sugar Factory serves American breakfast and brunch options like mascarpone pancakes with vanilla curd, sliced bananas and sliced walnuts, and a seafood benedict with crab, shrimp, sautéed garlic spinach, onion, bell pepper, and roasted jalapeño hollandaise sauce.

But when evening rolls around, it turns into Blue Pea, which offers Thai-inspired dishes like crispy noodle pad Thai and curry duck.

The dual breakfast-and-Asian-food concept seems to be picking up steam; the Castro's new Me & Tasty has the same structure, with brunch dishes in the morning and Thai and Asian fusion fare by night.

Brown Sugar Factory is open Monday–Friday from 9am–3pm, and Saturday–Sunday, from 8am–4pm. Blue Pea is open Sunday–Thursday, from 5:30pm–10:30pm, and Friday–Saturday from 5:30pm–11pm.
