One woman's nose was fractured, with a large laceration that required seven sutures. Another woman's tooth was broken.
After several Asian women were attacked in what SFPD called "brutal assaults," officers from Bayview Station began an investigation in August.
The investigation led police to arrest 19-year-old San Francisco resident Agustin Garcia, who lived near the areas where several attacks had taken place: San Bruno and Silver avenues in Portola, San Bruno and Arleta avenues in Visitacion Valley, and San Bruno and Egbert/Bacon avenues in Portola.
After police identified Garcia as a suspect, investigators discovered that he was already in custody for three similar assaults that occurred near San Bruno and Wilde avenues in Visitacion Valley.
"All of Garcia’s victims were Asian females," police reported, "with every attack made unprovoked."
Garcia reportedly followed several of his victims off of Muni buses. Some victims told investigators that they had seen him several times on Muni before they were attacked.
Police believe that he has committed more assaults that have not been reported, especially as victims say he was wearing sunglasses during some of his attacks.
Police have now arrested and charged Garcia on felony charges of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, battery with serious injuries, terrorist threats, attempted kidnapping, and a hate crime allegation.
