A verbal altercation between two men in the Mission last night escalated into an aggravated assault that left the victim fighting for his life.

The incident took place just after 9 p.m. on the 2400 block of Mission Street between 20th and 21st streets, where two men in their thirties were arguing. According to a witness, the suspect punched the victim in the head, knocking him out.

The suspect then fled northbound on Mission Street, and the victim was taken to a hospital.
