With searing summer temperatures, Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top places for frozen treats in Metairie. Using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce, we produced a ranked list of the best spots to venture next time you need to cool off with a snow cone, milkshake or ice cream. 

1. Sno-La Snowball Lounge

Topping the list is Sno-La Snowball Lounge. Located at 2311 N. Causeway Blvd., the spot to score New Orleans-style snowballs (sometimes referred to as snoballs or sno-balls) is the highest rated frozen treat destination in Metairie, boasting 4.5 stars out of 117 reviews on Yelp.

Affectionately known as a "snowball" in the greater New Orleans area, the popular frozen treat made from finely shaved ice topped with flavored syrup is a longtime local favorite on hot summer days. 

Sno-La Snowball Lounge features premium snowball flavors like chantilly cake, peanut butter cream pie, PB&J and blueberry cheesecake; specialty flavors such as Key lime pie, praline paradise and bananas Foster; along with banana, lemonade, ice cream, green apple and dreamsicle. 

2. Sal's Sno-Ball Stand

Next up is Sal's Sno-Ball Stand, situated at 1823 Metairie Ave. With 4.5 stars out of 75 reviews on Yelp, the spot to score soft-serve ice cream and snow cones has proven to be a local favorite.

Get in line at one of three walk-up windows for snowball creations like king cake-flavored syrup poured over shaved ice and topped with soft-serve ice cream and cherries; or wedding cake-flavored syrup over shaved ice topped with condensed milk. Familiar flavors on the menu include creme de mint, bubble gum, cotton candy, banana, Hawaiian Punch, coffee, cream soda and more. 

3. Sucré

Sucré, located at 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the candy store, which offers coffee, tea, ice cream, frozen yogurt and more, four stars out of 167 reviews.

With alternate locations Uptown and in the French Quarter, this sweet shop specializes in macarons, handmade marshmallows, extra-thick cookies, chocolate beverages, cakes, tortes, and mini desserts like vanilla éclairs, berry tartlets, mini cupcakes and customizable parfaits. 

4. MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes

MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes, which serves up burgers, ice cream, frozen yogurt and hot dogs, is another go-to, with four stars out of 124 Yelp reviews. Head over to 4100 Veterans Blvd. to see for yourself.

With more Louisiana outposts in the New Orleans Riverwalk, Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Denham Springs and Hammond — plus plenty of other locations sprinkled around the U.S. — this joint offers milkshakes in flavors like banana, Oreo, cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, strawberry and M&Ms. 

5. Casey's Snowballs

Finally — check out Casey's Snowballs, which has earned four stars out of 40 reviews on Yelp. You can find the spot to score snowballs and more open year round until 10 p.m. at 4608 W. Esplanade Ave.
