A confrontation early yesterday morning in an Excelsior district motel room led to a near-fatal stabbing, police have reported.

The incident occurred at a motor lodge on the 5000 block of Mission Street when the victim, a 30-year-old man, checked into a room with a 28-year-old female suspect.

At around 3:16 a.m., three men who were laying in wait pulled up in a vehicle outside the motel room. As the man and woman in the room argued, one of the four suspects stabbed him after the confrontation escalated.

After the assault, the male suspects assisted the woman, and all four fled the scene in a vehicle in an unknown direction. A police spokesperson said the victim, who suffered life-threatening wounds, did not identify his assailant.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.
