A new upscale Mexican spot has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The new addition, called Zocalo, is located at 2051 Metairie Road.
On the menu, offerings include tacos al pastor with charred pineapple salsa, fresh jalapeños and cilantro wrapped in housemade tortillas; fish tacos topped with chipotle tartar sauce, cabbage and pico de gallo; queso fundido with chorizo verde and flour tortillas; and pineapple margaritas mixed with jalapeño and cilantro.
With just two reviews on Yelp thus far, Zocalo currently has a 3.5-star rating.
"Good food, but pricey," Tiff D., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on June 29, wrote. "Carnitas plate was crispy and had great smokey beans. ... Decor is beautiful yet simple with natural elements of wood and live plants. I would recommend it if you're looking for a new place to try."
Billy C. wrote, "Started with the bluefin tuna tostada and loved it, also had the housemade tortillas with the queso fundido, which had some chorizo in it. We shared the carnitas plate, which was a very large portion that came with rice and beans."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Zocalo is open from 5–9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and 5–10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. (It's closed on Monday.)
