With spring officially underway, getting around on a bike may start to seem like a much more attractive option. Whether you're a seasoned commuter, a competitive racer or a weekend mountain-biker, a reliable spot for bikes, accessories and repairs is a must.
Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top bike shops in San Francisco, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're in the market to buy a new bike or repair an old one.
1. Sports Basement
First across the finish line is Sports Basement. Located at 610 Old Mason St. in the Presidio, this locally owned sporting goods store has a large bicycle section, offering bikes for sale, rentals, professional fittings and repairs.
The Presidio location, convenient to the Golden Gate Bridge, is currently the most popular bike shop in San Francisco, boasting 4.5 stars out of 1,160 reviews on Yelp. It also has another well-reviewed location in the Mission.
2. Wiggle Bicycles
The Western Addition's Wiggle Bicycles, located at 518 Waller St. (between Steiner and Potomac streets), is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the neighborhood bike shop five stars out of 194 reviews.
Yelpers praise the knowledgeable and helpful staff, as well as the reasonable prices and fast turnaround on maintenance and repairs.
3. High Trails Cyclery
High Trails Cyclery, another retail and repair spot in Nob Hill, is another much-loved go-to, with five stars out of 172 Yelp reviews. It specializes in mountain bikes, with all the relevant accessories, and also hosts guided mountain biking tours and lessons.
Head over to 1825 Polk St. (between Washington and Jackson streets) to see it for yourself.
Over at 1601 N. Point St. in the Marina, check out P-fits, which has earned five stars out of 149 reviews on Yelp.
Owner Pedro helps riders achieve the optimal positions on their bikes, with the goal of "improving comfort, reducing the risk of future injuries, increasing bike handling ability and most importantly, increasing safety."
His popular bike fitting services have impressed Yelpers like Jennifer B., who wrote, "After just a single round of adjustments, my power was up 20 watts ... I'm faster and more comfortable than I've ever been before."
5. Market Street Cycles
Last but not least, there's Market Street Cycles, a Civic Center favorite with five stars out of 144 reviews. Stop by 1592 Market St. (between Van Ness Ave and Highway 101) to hit up the bike shop and repair spot, which is currently promising shorter wait times on all repairs and maintenance for the spring season.
