First across the finish line is Sports Basement. Located at 610 Old Mason St. in the Presidio, this locally owned sporting goods store has a large bicycle section, offering bikes for sale, rentals, professional fittings and repairs.

Owner Pedro helps riders achieve the optimal positions on their bikes, with the goal of "improving comfort, reducing the risk of future injuries, increasing bike handling ability and most importantly, increasing safety."

5. Market Street Cycles

Last but not least, there's Market Street Cycles, a Civic Center favorite with five stars out of 144 reviews. Stop by 1592 Market St. (between Van Ness Ave and Highway 101) to hit up the bike shop and repair spot, which is currently promising shorter wait times on all repairs and maintenance for the spring season.
