A new Japanese-style izakaya has debuted in the neighborhood. The fresh addition to the Outer Richmond, called Izakaya Mayumi, is located at 2221 Clement St., between 23rd and 24th avenues.

Like most izakayas, Mayumi's menu is centered on small plates and shareables, such as edamame, wagyu beef nigiri, sashimi, and grilled meat and seafood skewers. Also available are uni and oyster shooters, as well as heartier noodle dishes.

Vegetarian snacks are mostly $7 or less, with prices for sashimi and skewers in the $12-22 range. A daily chalkboard menu offers specials like geoduck clam sashimi or simmered wagyu beef intestine.

The drink list features more than a dozen kinds of sake by the glass or bottle, organized by region and flavor profile. Special reserve sake is offered by the bottle, and other beverages include wine, beer and soju.

The new addition has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of nine reviews on Yelp.

Quyen N., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 21, wrote, "Enjoyed a lovely lunch here. Excellent menu, pleasant surroundings and staff."

Yelper Vivian L. noted, “This is probably my favorite Japanese restaurant in town."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Izakaya Mayumi is open from 5:30–9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 5:30–10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. (It's closed on Tuesday.)
