Here are some notable crime reports from SFPD's Central District since our last biweekly recap. The district encompasses Chinatown; the Financial District; the Embarcadero; Russian, Telegraph and Nob Hills; North Beach and Union Square. All information comes from official SFPD reports, unless otherwise noted.

Purse, phone robbery at gunpoint 

Just after midnight on January 10, a 30-year-old man robbed a 32-year-old woman at gunpoint, taking her phone, purse and keys before fleeing. The incident occurred on the 1500 block of Taylor Street (between Pacific and Broadway). No arrest has been made. 

Woman injured in purse robbery

On January 7 at 6:45 p.m., an unknown male hit a 61-year-old woman on the head at Waverly Place and Clay Street. He then grabbed her purse — containing a passport, ID and debit card — and fled. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No arrest has been made.

Man breaks into apartment, steals packages

On January 3 at 10:50 p.m., a 43-year-old man used a screwdriver to break into an apartment on the 1500 block of Taylor Street (between Pacific and Broadway). He then stole multiple packages belonging to the apartment's owner, a 60-year-old woman. No one was injured, and no arrest was made.

Men steal women's backpacks

On January 1 at 8 p.m., two men (aged 23 and 24) grabbed the backpacks of two women (aged 21 and 26) at Leavenworth and Post streets. The victims attempted to take their backpacks back, but the suspects pulled them to the ground before fleeing. The suspects were later arrested, while the victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Woman hospitalized after being pushed by man

Also on January 1 at 1:25 a.m. a man aged between 30 and 35 pushed a 23-year-old woman on the 600 block of Pacific Avenue (between Columbus and Grant), causing her to fall and injure herself. The suspect then fled on foot.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries from the encounter, and was transported to a hospital. No arrest has been made.

Hotel room burglar takes diamonds, credit cards

On December 30, a 39-year-old man left his hotel room on the 200 block of Powell Street (between O'Farrell and Post) at 3 p.m. When he returned three hours later, he noticed his duffel bag, containing a wallet with credit cards as well as jewelry and diamonds, was missing. No arrest was made.

Man injured in shooting

On December 29 at 10:45 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot by a man believed to be between 25 and 35 years old on Columbus Avenue and Broadway. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is still underway, as the victim provided few details, police said.
