In an effort to address concerns of safety and cleanliness that may be holding back full ridership, BART has doubled its police presence on trains and in stations. The increased police force is leading to significantly more arrests in recent months, with March and April logging some of the highest monthly arrest totals since the start of the pandemic. While the focus on increased police presence and arrests may draw some riders back, BART is also embracing positive PR efforts, such as a recent anime character promotion event at FanimeCon in San Jose.
