In the midst of a bleak outlook for Bay Area public transportation, two Muni bus lines - the 22-Fillmore and 49-Van Ness - are defying the odds and experiencing ridership growth. The 22-Fillmore's average weekday ridership has risen from 19,700 in February 2020 to 20,100, while the 49-Van Ness/Mission has surged from 26,200 to 31,400. Factors that may have contributed to their success include the opening of the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit System and transit-only lanes on 16th Street for the 22-Fillmore.
