Chicago is set to see the closure of several TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores as announced by their parent company, TJX. The T.J. Maxx store at 1008 South Canal St. and Marshalls at 7507 North Clark St. are scheduled for closure on January 6, 2024. This move is part of TJX's routine decision to close or relocate a few stores annually, as noted by The Street.
Despite the anticipated closures, over 20 T.J. Maxx and Marshalls stores are continuing to operate in the Chicago area. The company expressed its appreciation toward customers and commits to upholding its promise of providing "great values" at its remaining locations. Affected employees are being offered positions at other locations, as stated in a comment given to NBC Chicago.
Store closures will also occur in New York, with the Bronx-based Marshalls outlet at 610 Exterior Street and Brooklyn's T.J. Maxx store at 503 Fulton Street closing in early January. The company's strategy to maintain an expansive and varied selection for shoppers necessitates these adjustments.
A unique progression of TJX comprises securing merchandise at low prices due to stock surplus of different brands. Despite this edge, challenges are present, with large retailers like Target, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Best Buy highlighting issues surrounding inventory shrink and budget impacts.
Even amidst these hurdles, a rise of 2.5% in stock over the previous month highlight a thriving trend for TJX. The company cited "economic" reasons for the forthcoming New York closures and stated strategic real estate assessments influenced these decisions.
