A 13-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning in South Chicago,. The victim was seated in the passenger side of a car when an assailant, purportedly from a gold Kia SUV, opened fire around 12:40 a.m. on the 8700 block of South Marquette Avenue, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The gunfire left the boy with a severe chest wound, and the driver hurriedly rushed him to Trinity Hospital, due to little knowledge of the assailant’s whereabouts nor the motive behind the shooting, authorities are left fumbling in the dark. His condition necessitated a transfer to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he remains in serious condition, as WGN-TV added.

As of the latest reports, no suspects have been taken into custody.  Community members are urged to come forward with any information that might assist in the investigation.
