Burglars are targeting homes in Englewood, police warn, following a series of break-ins over the November period. The Chicago Police Department issued a community alert after becoming aware of incidents where offender(s) have forcibly entered through front doors, stripping residents of their belongings.
Specifically, the Chicago Police Department reported two burglaries that shook the neighborhood—one taking place on the 800 Block of West 58th Street on November 24, 2023, in the early evening, and another on the 5500 Block of South Morgan Street in the dead of night on November 22, 2023. The offenders' identities remain unknown, slipping into the night after their crimes.
Residents are now being advised to fortify their homes. Recommendations include keeping properties well-lit, reporting any suspicious behavior, securing doors and windows efficiently, repairing any damaged access points promptly, and preserving video evidence where available. These precautionary steps shared by the CPD aim to tighten the community's defense against such intrusions.
In the wake of violations, victims are urged by the authorities to preserve the crime scene and contact the police without delay. "If you are a victim do not touch anything, call police immediately," states the official CPD alert, emphasizing the importance of keeping evidence intact. Furthermore, in the event of bearing witness to such crimes, citizens are encouraged to collect contact information for follow-up investigations.
The Chicago Police Department is encouraging community members to also secure any window air-conditioning units – easy targets for burglars to dislodge and gain entry.
