A 17-year-old male has been apprehended by Chicago police in connection with a series of armed robberies on the city's mass transit system, officials reported Thursday. The juvenile, whose name has not been released due to his age, faces two felony counts of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and one felony count of aggravated robbery.
According to Chicago Police Department, the young offender was detained on December 14, 2023, in the vicinity of the 1100 block of S. Hamilton Ave. This individual is the alleged perpetrator who terrorized commuters on the CTA trains, engaging in an armed robbery that victimized a 27-year-old male and a 28-year-old female on November 26, and another separate incident involving a 23-year-old female the previous day.
The reported incidents took place on trains in the 500 block of S. Kedzie Avenue, which falls within the 11th District's jurisdiction. Police have credited the Mass Transit Unit for the arrest of the accused following their investigative efforts, leading to the subsequent charges.
With the suspect now in custody, law enforcement officials have marked a small victory in the ongoing battle against crime in the transit system. While the investigation remains ongoing, no further information has been released by the authorities.
