A burst of road rage turned violent on the South Side of Chicago Wednesday morning, leaving a man wounded from gunfire. The confrontation unfolded near a gas station at the intersection of West 79th Street and South Western Avenue, intersections on the fringe of the Gresham and Wrightwood neighborhoods.
The dispute began when a 37-year-old man found himself in a heated exchange with another individual who had stepped out of a vehicle, reported WLS. After arguments escalated, the assailant drew a gun and let loose a barrage of shots, striking the man multiple times throughout his body. The victim then took himself to Christ Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
Authorities arrived on the scene but have not yet apprehended anyone in connection with the shooting. Detectives from Area One are actively investigating the incident, but details surrounding the circumstances of the altercation remain scant.
Separately, CBS provided a narrower lens on the location, stating the shooting occurred at the Falcon Fuel gas station. The man, who sustained gunshot wounds to various parts of his body, was self-transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, "where his condition was stabilized," according to CBS. Despite the swift response, the shooter's identity and motives are still wrapped in uncertainty; no one is in custody at this time.
