A Chicago teenager has been slugged with serious charges in the wake of a deadly shooting that claimed two lives in the city's Chicago Lawn neighborhood. The 16-year-old, who has not been named due to his age, is facing two counts of first-degree murder after a 14-year-old boy and a 65-year-old man were fatally shot.
Details emerged as authorities reported arresting the teen last Friday on South Artesian Avenue. As cited in the Chicago Tribune, the arrest took place barely days after the grisly incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon on West 61st Place, where gunfire erupted and left the community reeling.
The victims, identified as Juan A. Medina Jr., 14, and Mario Medina, were standing outside their home when the incident occurred, as per the police account. In an onslaught of bullets from a gray vehicle reported to house two gunmen, the younger Medina's life was cut short at the scene while the elder succumbed to his injuries at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, later on.
Both victims, who shared a residence and were relatives, fell victim to multiple gunshot wounds, confirmed the Cook County medical examiner’s office, ruling the incident a homicide.
