A Texas school employee found herself behind bars, charged with engaging in an illicit relationship with a student. Danielle Elizabeth Dunn, 32, faces grave accusations after her arrest on Thursday, according to a report by CBS Austin. The paraprofessional clerk at Hays High School in Buda is charged with one count of Improper Relationship between an Educator and Student, and one count of Child Grooming.
The allegations surfaced on Sunday when Hays CISD was tipped off about Dunn's alleged behavior. Acting swiftly, the district fired Dunn on Monday and reported the situation to both the Kyle Police Department and Child Protective Services. "We know these incidents are unsettling for our community, but we are working together with the school district during this difficult time to provide our students and affected families with the justice, care, and support they deserve," Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said in a statement obtained by CBS Austin.
Following an "exhaustive" investigation, Kyle Police issued a warrant for Dunn's arrest on Tuesday, reported FOX 7 Austin. Dunn, who began working at Hays High School at the start of the school year on August 22, had passed an extensive fingerprint and active-monitoring background check.
Charges came after an allegation that Dunn had been involved in an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student at the school. Currently held at Hays County Jail, online court records show a $5,000 bond for each count against her. Law enforcement continues their investigation and has urged anyone with additional information to contact the Kyle Police Department or to submit tips anonymously to the Hays County Crime Stoppers, as stated by FOX 7 Austin.
