San Francisco, usually known for its elevated cuisine, now serves a new delicacy: $250 bagel sandwiches by British artist Lucy Sparrow. These unconventional works of art, entirely hand-sewn out of felt, pay homage to the iconic New York bagel shops and delis. Sparrow's playful pieces have attracted A-list fans like Drew Barrymore and sparked a social media frenzy with their big beady eyes and jovial smiles.

Sparrow's latest installation, "Feltz Bagels" is gracing the Fog Design + Art Fair at Fort Mason Center. While her bagels are not edible, they are certainly feeding the souls of art enthusiasts. Wearing a fluffy lavender coat, Sparrow, according to an interview with SFGate, said, "I like things that are fun," adding that she enjoys items "that are very cute, things that are very aesthetically happy and pleasing." Despite wrapping up a busy schedule, which included a 24-hour touch down in Tampa to visit her storage unit, Sparrow was preparing for the Fair's opening on January 18, as revealed by her Instagram post.

If you thought forming a felt deli in the city was unlikely, the runaway success of "Feltz Bagels" first emerged in New York last October. With long lines of art and bagel aficionados alike, it became evident that Sparrow had cooked something special. With regional considerations at the heart of her work, "Feltz Bagels" in San Francisco will feature health-conscious ingredients like avocado and egg white omelet, making sure to cater "to the Californian audience," she explained in her SFGate interview.

With a British artist without a Jewish background carefully spent eight months researching and stitching together cuddly felt foods from black and white cookies to babka, the exhibit has taken meticulous preparation. Even pickles, hot sauce, and coffee didn't escape Sparrow's crafty needle, as she drew inspiration from time-honored Jewish delis such as Zabar's, Russ & Daughters, and Katz's Delicatessen. Taking to Instagram, Sparrow expressed her excitement for installing "Feltz Bagels" at Fog Fair and San Francisco's side adventures, from the Kusama room at SFMOMA to a bucket-list-worthy guided tour of Alcatraz.
