A night of terror unfolded on West Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation as a young mother and her child were caught in the crossfire of a shooting, which left the 5-year-old hospitalized. According to CBS News Miami, the incident occurred Saturday night near the 6900 block where the 20-year-old woman drove, bullets striking her vehicle multiple times while her child suffered a graze wound from one of the bullets.
Despite the hail of gunfire, the mother miraculously escaped physical harm, but her 5-year-old wasn't as lucky and ended up with serious injuries that, however, were deemed non-life-threatening by medical professionals, police detailed the shooting and they continued, noting the child’s condition as they were transported to an area hospital for treatment. NBC Miami reported that the shooting happened around 10:15 p.m, shedding light on the harrowing scene that unfolded in an area frequented by families and night-goers alike.
As the investigation presses forward, Plantation Police are fervently pursuing leads in a bid to apprehend those responsible for the reckless endangerment of a mother and her child. While detectives are tight-lipped about the progress of their probe, no suspects have been named, and it remains unclear what prompted the shooting.
Detective Robert Rettig of the Plantation Police Department has been at the forefront of the investigation and while there's an air of mystery shrouding the case with no immediate information available, the commitment to justice for the victims is unwavering remains untouched by the cloak of ambiguity that often can hinder investigations like these.
