According to the official update from the San Diego Police Department, the body, identified as Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones, was uncovered on December 22, 2023, in the Allied Gardens neighborhood.
The circumstances brought in the Police Homicide Unit after the body, having no apparent signs of injury, planted questions about the cause of death. Calling the police immediately after the unsettling find, it was in an unusual state that the family members were visiting from out of town. Initial examinations suggested that Haxby-Jones, who would've been 81, might have been deceased for up to nine years.
Neighborhood residents have been rattled by the incident, with neighbor Austin Cowdrey telling NBC News, "Wow. That's definitely concerning." He further admitted that while security cameras were already in place, this episode would prompt increased caution within the community.
Details surrounding Haxby-Jones's death remain scarce. Detectives and the Medical Examiner continue to delve into the case, urging anyone with information to reach out.
