Cookie aficionados, take note: The Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida are rolling out their 2024 cookie season this Saturday, and it's set to be a special year for the organization. Celebrating their 101st year of operation, the local council is dishing out iconic treats like Thin Mints and Samoas with a side of entrepreneurship and community leadership.
The cookie-selling season launches tomorrow and will run through February 25 in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the organization's annual financial fuel, with proceeds staying local to further troops' service projects and travel, as well as to help provide summer camp experiences. Troops are expected to pickup over a quarter million boxes of cookies this season, as reported by WSVN.
"When you buy a box of Girl Scout Cookies you are fueling a Girl's dreams," said Chelsea Wilkerson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, in a statement. The program isn't just about the sugary snack; it's a hands-on experience in running a small business. The sale teaches girls valuable skills such as goal setting, money management, business ethics, people skills, and decision making. These are the tools that can build future leaders and shapers of the business world, according to a release from the Girl Scouts.
With last year commemorating the council's 100th year, this season is no less significant as it marks the 89th cookie sales season. The Girl Scouts will have booths set up at local supermarkets like Publix and Milam’s Markets, and customers will also have the option to order cookies online through the Digital Cookie platform. Those tradition-bound Samoa and Thin Mint lovers can rest assured knowing they are investing in girl leadership within the community. This season's cookie campaign continues to embody the entrepreneurial spirit that has been a trademark of the Girl Scouts for over a century, as highlighted by CBS Miami.
The anticipation for this season is not just about the cookies, but about the legacy being carried forward. "All purchases of beloved Thin Mints®, Samoas®, Lemon-Ups™, and other Girl Scout Cookie favorites are an investment in girl leadership in our community," Girl Scouts said in a news release. And it seems that with every bite of these familiar treats, the community is not just sating a sweet tooth but nurturing the growth of its youngest business moguls.
