A South Florida man faces serious charges after allegedly assaulting a mentally disabled woman he met through an online game. Miguel Sales Mendez, 22, of Lake Worth Beach, is accused of raping a 23-year-old with the mental capacity of a child, as reported by Local 10 News.
Police documents reveal the suspect and victim communicated via WhatsApp after connecting on "Free Fighter", which is mentioned by WIOD. The assault was later arranged by Mendez, telling the woman he would bring her to a "magical place", while coercing her to sneak out from her parental home.
The incident unfolded in a Fort Lauderdale business complex, where Mendez reportedly forced the woman out of his car and into an isolated area, according to an arrest warrant from Local 10 News. After the attack, the suspect left the victim concealed in the bushes and swiftly left the scene.
Sales Mendez, who was apprehended following a traffic stop and subsequent DNA match to evidence from a rape kit, levied upon him three counts of sexual battery on a mentally defective person. He is currently held without bond at the Broward Sheriff's Office Paul Rein Detention Facility, with an immigration hold as he is a Guatemalan national.
