The search for a missing elderly man in Leander came to a resolution with the local police reporting that 85-year-old Fred Douglas Stover has been found. According to a statement by the Leander Police Department, a local resident stumbled upon Stover and quickly contacted the authorities. Following their swift response, officers were able to return Stover to his home, where he was evaluated by the EMS as a measure of safety. The police have now called off the Silver Alert that was previously issued.
Earlier alerts from the Leander Police Department described Stover as a white man, standing at 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 174 lbs., with distinguishing blue eyes and white hair. In an appeal for public assistance, they stated that Stover was last seen at his residence in the 900 block of Ridgemont Circle. It was believed that he walked away from home, though the direction was unclear. The senior was last spotted wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and dark green pajama pants with a diamond pattern, notably without shoes or socks, KXAN reported.
Officials commented that there was no evidence suggesting foul play in Stover's disappearance. During the time he was missing, law enforcement asked residents, especially those from subdivisions like Crystal Crossing, Ridgewood North and South, Horizon Park, and Oakridge, to be vigilant and to inspect their backyards for any sign of the elderly man, who they suggested might be disoriented.
The local community was instrumental in Stover's safe return. The active cooperation between the police and community members highlights the importance of neighborhood awareness in resolving such alarming scenarios. Stover's condition upon being found was not immediately released, but the precautionary evaluation by medical personnel suggested that he was brought back without any immediate or apparent harm. For those who had been keeping an eye out, the update on Stover's safe recovery surely comes as a sigh of relief, CBS Austin disclosed.
